Exactly what I said earlier! I have no idea why this option isn't used more frequently than a no knock warrant other than it's not as glamorous and maybe the department is trying to justify the cost of training and equipment.

The law is a complicated and always changing book. It is not surprising that a beat cop doesn't know, by heart, every statute and code.

I am so sorry to hear this. I do hope the officer's family will be looked after by the PD that sent him on the errand and that a lesson is learned that no knock warrants are very dangerous to everyone involved.
