That trick comes and goes. If your crew makes a habit of impersonating police though, you usually move right to the top of of your local police force's shit list. Long term, it's a terrible strategy.

I have been politely asked to resume normally scheduled programming so Here. We. Go.

Any time someone decides it's a good idea to kick in a door, they should expect to be met with violence. There's not a single officer out there that, if another department got the address wrong and actually did this to them, would say "Oh hey man, it's cool, I understand." They would instinctively do what this man did which is defend his home.

Options for actually handling this without playing Billy Badass? Well since I get called out for thinking I know police tactics (you know, shooting pets, getting the wrong address, gunning down innocent homeowners who are watering their lawns), I'll use common sense.

If you have a warrant, you think he's a threat and you have all this fucking gear and time on your hands, sit and wait for him to leave the residence. YOu know, leave the place where the guns and drugs are? Yeah that. Make the arrest, enforce the warrant while you have the arrest and build your case for prosecution then. Congratulations, I just saved tax dollars on the fucking team training to execute this and the letter to the new widow because some asshole decided "Let's fucking Waco this bitch."

Not at all. I have been pointed out the error of my previous path and am seeking to better understand the needs of the men and women of law enforcement. In order to protect them from criminals, I am also for the removing of the posse comatatus act and providing access to full military backup in case they are fired upon. Criminals will think twice before executing one of these fine individuals or even raising a weapon against the community they live in if they are guaranteed a 40mm grenade launched through their window.

The safety of the public and the officers in question trumps privacy laws. What good is privacy when you have a drug dealer living next door to you armed and dangerous? We have to balance personal rights with community safety.

Perhaps officers should be equipped with thermal cameras to view where the occupants are exactly, along with the numbers of said occupants to minimize danger to officers?

In order to ensure the maximum safety of both the officers and the individual in question, thermal surveillance would make the most sense. You have an understanding of who is where and can see outlines of weapons if they are present. The grow lights in this instance would have been a very large flare that would have provided probable cause for a search warrant if the officers had only driven down the street looking through the camera for such thermal blooms.

Revenue made from enforcing current traffic laws could conceivably pay for several of these cameras and the officer's training on them. If funds fall short, simply divert more officers to traffic enforcement and discuss with the district attorney the possibility of utilizing plea bargains as further revenue generation to outfit all squad cars with cameras that can permit the SWAT units to 'see' what the officer's vehicle sees in real time.

That would be correct. BCOOP just loves to think I'm wrong.
