  • Gold Coin

My wife has a gold coin from china that she is thinking about selling and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where is the best place to sell it. She was thinking about taking it to a place that buys scrap gold but I know they won't give her the true value of the coin. If nothing else I figured Denny or Mr. Tinfoil hat will start a bidding war.

This is what it looks like its .999 pure.

DO NOT send it to a cash4gold bullshit thingie, or take it to a "We buy scrap gold!" place. Fox News sent in a quater ounce gold coin a while back valued at nearly $300, and they received about $200.

Sell it to a bullion dealer.

You expect more from a Pawn Shop?

LOL I guess I've never been hard up enough for some quick cash to take a 75% reduction in the value of something I'm selling.

Honestly the only reason I've ok'd the sale of the coin is because she is in the process of paying off her credit card and almost done. She's down to the last 1700 or so and I told her she can sell the coin and I'd give her the last grand as long as she canceled the credit card.

I laugh at the people on that show whining about the offers they get and bad mouthing the broker. I scream at the TV "Its a freakin pawn shop! Don't you know how this works!?"

I think ive had one of those.

Is it about the size of a dime?

If it has any sentimental value keep it, and get a part time job. You'll be better off in the end. I finally got my wife to get a part time job to pay off her school loans/car loan so we can move forward.

She finally got a part time job and is knocking that shit out. She has went from working one full day and a few hours one night, up to 25 or so a week. I did it for years and you will eventually burn out, but its nice to save up the cash.

My girlfriend's family is in the gold-diamond business. Your coin being I think 1/20 of an oz means that it should be worth 20% of whatever spot gold is on the stock market and then add $15-20 to that price. The market changes everyday. It has been over I believe $1400 recently but I think its in the high 1300's currently. I have not been paying attention. Sell it on a high day and you will get top dollar. Most pawn places screw you over on the fractional coins. Good luck with the sale.

                        It's a 1/2 once coin.

Even better. Look at the stock market and its worth half plus the stated extra $15-$20.

Btw kitco.com is a pretty good site for monitoring all gold activity.

Don't take it to a pawnshop, they're trying to make money too. Take it straight to the "man" and cut out any middle men. Theres a place called ARA its over off of 35 and walnut hill. On coins they pay like 98% of market value, its going to be your best bet. I've looked all around dfw and they're paying top dollar. Do your own research and see what would work the best for you.
