just curious, is there a yearly fee associated with this card? from what I read online, it looks like there is.

Yes, but not for the first year.

Yes - they extended it to 2/28. I saw another link that said they added a companion airline ticket to sweeten the deal. I'll find out later I guess.

$85 per year after the first year.

OK, I was already pre-approved and my card actually showed up today. I saw on the paperwork they sent me the $85 charge after the first year. So is it better to just cancel it after the first year, or will that negatively affect my credit? I am fixing to order some coins right now. Also, if I do cancel it, do I lose the miles if I haven't used them?

I'm really not sure, check the credit card agreement or give them a call. Once you receive the miles, I don't see how they could take them back. I am planning on keeping this account open, since I have three different citi aadvantage accounts, I only have to pay the annual fee on one.

What could possibly be illegal about taking advantage of an offer? They say "get a card and we'll give you miles" and we say "ok". Sounds pretty simple to me.

You could say that buying coins from the mint or transferring money back and forth on Amazon is shady, and I would agree, but it's not illegal. I fully intend to wear Amazon out once I get my card(s).

Personally, I just applied for the Visa and AmEx cards - both through the 100k mile offer (I already have the Citi AA MasterCard). If it works for me, I'll sign my wife up for both cards currently offered on the 100k mile deal.

That's 400,000 airline miles for very little effort. It's taken me 2 years to reach 160,000 miles with my first card and I got bonus miles when I got it (I think 50k).

                  Update:

I received my two new cards (Visa and AmEx - already had the MasterCard). I made two separate phone calls to verify that I received the 100k promotional offer on each card and they verified that I did receive the offer on each card.

Time to create two Amazon accounts and start sending myself money...

And I'm going to get my wife two of the cards - 200,000 more miles!

I already have a Citi AAvantage card. I received my 25,000 points but want the 50,000 or 100,000.

As for this being illegal, I thought the same thing. However, the credit card companies only care about getting there money and people using their card. If that involves cycling money through, I dont see an issue.

Doesn't matter if you already have a card. I already had the MasterCard and I got the 100k deal on the AmEx AND Visa.

What is the annual fee AFTER the first "free" year?

And my statement just closed on my personal card and I got the 75k bonus. I've applied for 4 various cards through Citi and Amex and I have 153k AA miles and 63k Starwood Preferred points. I think I'm set for travel for the next year or two. Now to figure out where to go. Galapagos Islands for a scuba trip? Or Belize? Hmmm...Costa Rica? Yes please!

Has your bank question you about these transactions?

Nope, not at all. They did ask once where I keep getting all the coins, I just told them the mint and I'm doing it to rack up airline miles. They accept them without any hassle.
