There were several cats in Canada that were heavily into R/C, I don't know if they all made it over here. Danny (46TBird) is akin to Yoda when it comes to R/C.

I've got one if you want it, its nitro though. Danny knows the details, I bought it from him. It's a car though.

I can help you with any nitro product.

I've never ran electric. They seem to be the way to go now if you can get over not hearing a motor run.

Traxxas is a good company and local to dfw. Actually all of my car/trucks are traxxas now.

They have quite a few cars under 300 or right at 300. Just dont forget the other 200-300 in add on shit you will end up buying a week later haha.

I've got an HPI and my buddies have Traxxas... but we all run Nitro. Wyant50 on here works at HobbytownUSA in Arlington - he could help you out if you have a question.

I picked up a Yokomo Gt-4w nitro for $100 with 3 extra motors, a tool box with all kinds of parts and controller. I'm in the process of building it up right now as the guy I bought it from broke a shock tower. I can't wait to test it out.

If you want to race at mikes they have a class just for the traxxas slash trucks.

I like the little e revo's, But only since i have the 3.3 revo.

Run up to mikes. They are good people there and will get you started.

With a 300 budget you can get a nice car imho.

Get a Traxxas Slash 4x4, don't waste your time with the lower model just go to the brushless right off the bat. I thought I was going the cheap route and bought the $200 one and now have over $700 in it. Granted it does 70mph and rips tires off of beaded rims, but you can get the brushless 4x4 for around $400 if I remember correctly.

Check out the Traxxas Slash 4wd. It's pretty fast and damn near bullet proof. There are faster ones out there (like my 1/8th scale buggy) but it's way too fast for a beginner.

Mike's is a great place to look and drive your new truck. They have 3 tracks up there too.

I got a Traxxas Stampede XL5 for Xmas and it's been a blast! I got mine from Hobbytown Usa, there's a member here that works at Hobbytown as well. Can't remember who it was though.
