  • Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson fired over GQ interview.

    What a bunch of cowards.

"Duck Dynasty" dad Phil Robertson has been placed on indefinite suspension by the A&E Network following his recent comments on homosexuality, the network announced Wednesday night.

"We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson's comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty," the network said in a statement.

"His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

Earlier Wednesday, Roberston had responded to critics who had slammed him for very graphic statements he made about his preference for heterosexual sex over homosexual sex.

“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior,” he said in a statement sent to FOX411.

“My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

"However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

In a wide-ranging interview with GQ, Robertson didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts about homosexuality and sinning.

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong... Sin becomes fine,” he said. “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

Paraphrasing Corinthians he added: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

The gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD was quick to criticize Robertson for his comments and called on A&E to take action.

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe," said GLAAD rep Wilson Cruz. "He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans – and Americans - who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."

Robertson also told GQ his family has lost its privacy since they were thrust into the limelight as the stars of the hit show, but it was well worth it because the series has given him a platform to spread his religious beliefs.

“For the sake of the Gospel, it was worth it… All you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s 80 years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.”

Still, he doesn’t expect his fame to last forever.

“Let’s face it, three, four, five years, we’re out of here. You know what I’m saying? It’s a TV show. This thing ain’t gonna last forever. No way.”

And he may be right. Back in 2007, A&E halted production "Dog the Bounty Hunter" when it was revealed that Duane Chapman had used racial slurs. The series returned after several months but was later canceled.

The Twitterverse quickly reacted to Robertson's comments, with social media users both slamming and praising the TV star.

I've read the full GQ interview. I think it is important to mention that this doesn't appear to be a hack job on the Phil Robertson or his family. The interviewer does interject some counterpoints like Phil not mentioning Christianities violent past but I think that is fair.

IMO GLADD and A&E are over playing their hand. I can see some people thinking Phil's vagina comments being crude but his talk about homosexuality being a sin is in line with the Bible. One thing totally ignored is this comment from Phil,
“We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”
IMO that is a round about way of saying what Christ has taught us. To love each other. Sin is still sin but we must love both believers and non-believers alike.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. A&E has made a lot of money off this show and I'm willing to bet that the viewership is more in line with Phil's thinking than GLADD's.

It's a wonderful place that I call my home town.

I even went to high school with the Robertson boys, though I didn't know them personally..

I also love that part of the world, I'm just not surprised anyone would say this kind of thing. He's a bearded hillbilly from north Louisiana. They should give him another season for not saying something racist.

When I heard phil was in hot water I choked on my duck commander jerky, as I stumbled into the kitchen I tripped over my duck commander kitchen mat luckily falling my camouflaged duck commander work boots and dislodging that piece of jerky. The saddest part of all this is my duck commander camo sunglasses broke in my fall and fell into my duck commander jar wine glass and I spit duck commander wine all over my duck commander curtains when I realized I had drank my sunglasses!
