Bank account got hit!

Apparently one of my visa check cards was compromised and i got a call from the bank wanting me to authorize some purchases in Connecticut and Florida today. The visa card services department sent me some new cards last week and they came in on Friday but I just hadn't got around to activating them yet. They started out with two 2 dollar charges at a Bed Bath and Beyond and then tried to score some bigger ones that they caught becasue at the exact same time another person was trying to buy stuff at a Wallmart in Florida. I guess it is kinda hard to use the same 2 cards in 3 states with 1000miles between each one of the locations. Thankfully they didn't get very much but it could have been bad. I think it is time to get a bigger limit credit card and use it for everything and then just pay that bill once a month. At least that way they cant get to my actual bank account.

Jupiter, FL by chance? I had the same thing happen last week and they charged four charges of $105.64 at Wal-Mart before my bank killed the card.

Took a couple days, but I have a new card and all the money has been credited to the account.

You should be doing that anyways with a rewards card. I pay everything with my rewards credit card.

seriously though that sucks. I'd def. look into getting a different card so that your actual funds don't get messed with in these situations. Were these online transactions or did someone actually make a copy of your card?

Seems like this is happening to everyone. They got my chase credit card # last year and tried to use it at Lord and Taylor up in New England somewhere at the same time as I was using it to buy lunch in Odessa, TX. Luckily the bank called me immediately and I wasn't out any money just had to wait on a new card.

I don't think they were online transactions. The VISA card services people said that my account was possibly compromised along with others but didn't say how. My guess is someone hacked a system some where or didn't dispose of my info properly and I got hit.
