I have been dwelling on this all day. I saw several Fords and Chevy/GMC's today. I saw a couple of Fords I liked, however, every Chevy/GMC I saw had me ready to buy a new truck. So, the hunt is on for a 08-13 Silverado or Sierra with good mileage. From what I am seeing, to get anything under 50K miles with the 5.3 I am going to have to look at financing 20-25K. If I can stretch the term out, I can keep from stretching my budget too far continue to put my bonuses into savings and in 12-18 months be able to pay it down quite a bit and refinance it.

Does anyone know the vin code for 3.73 rear end, or how to check the rear end gears?

I wouldn't rule out trucks up to 75k. I bought an 07 ext cab with 72k and haven't had a lick of problems out of it. I just planned on doing the major services shortly after buying it just to be safe.

It's a great truck. My only gripes are the AFM/DoD which causes oil consumption and it kind feels like it lacks power and throttle response...it's there, just seems like the AFM/DoD takes a split second to kick in. I'm hoping to disable that in the near future.

The computer will remind me of oil changes every 8k miles but by that time, I've lost about 1.25 qts of oil. I typically change mine every 5k anyway so it's not a big issue.

I'm actually planning on upgrading to some 8 spoke Denali wheels and will be selling my Texas Edition 20's if you're interested...without the TPM sensors though.

Five star in NRH did my plugs and COP's for 125$ out the door. well worth it.

It was an 06 F150 fx4 with the 5.4 at either 98k or 102k miles. I did bring my own plugs though.

Somewhat off point here, but quick question. Is it just me, or have trucks gotten substantially larger the last few years? It seems like the current F150s, Tundras, Rams are enormous. I'm wondering if it's just simply being in SF for years or what ... the modern half-ton 4x4s look gigantic to me. I know the increase in wheel size over time contributes somewhat.

It does seem that way. I am not sure if it is overall dimension or body proportions. They have definitely increased cabin size. Both Chevy and Dodge are using bigger doors on the crew cabs

I bought a fully loaded x cab 07 silverado for 16. Ltz with every option avail. Had about 100k on it 125 now without an issue. 5.3 is very reliable and easily fixed 19mpg

You could practically sleep on the floor of a new supercrew f150.

Any thoughts on that one? I am having trouble finding something I can afford with a 5.3L in it. I had myself convinced I was going to buy a light colored truck this time around (white/silver) however, I keep going back to this particular one
