Anyone here have a 3D printer yet or got to play with one?

These things are becoming much more attainable. I am thinking if I can come up with something I could sell enough of to recoup my costs, I wouldn't mind having one. The elusive "unobtainable" parts are now obtainable to some extent.

Also, I have some parts I would like to have replicated. I just want to hand them to someone and get back the new ones. I am not interested in doing any of the rendering or whatever you call it.

I plan on getting a 3d printer in 2014. There is a 3d printing technology that is coming off of patent in 2014 and that should put additional pressure on pricing.

Rapid prototyping is more y'all's game, than 3D printing.

lol...it's the same thing. Additive manufacturing is a form of rapid prototyping.

That's like you saying "squares are more y'all's game, than rectangles".



And to anyone actually looking for help, I work with a variety of different 3D printers for prototypes. It will cost much more than you expect to get a quality model. the affordable personal 3D printers are all FDM which doesn't look very good. A Metal 3D print is still very expensive.

You are better off getting it CNCed in many instances.

Furthermore, replicating something requires a 3D scan or a 3D modeling package. It's not like a xerox at this point.

Got a quote back for $200 each. That is for a 1.5 x 5.5 inch dealer nameplate in plastic. Yep, the tech is still to rich for me.

There is some place I had seen about years ago on the HAMB where they could make all these chrome lettered emblems custom any way you wanted.
