Normally I would side with law enforcement, but in this case I do not so far based on the report quoted in this thread.

Originally posted by The King View PostFair enough then. Arrest is one thing, use of deadly force is another. The question now then would be did this officer indeed witness any felony being committed by this student, who simply by virtue of being a student at this university would be considered by any reasonable person to have had a legit reason to be on campus.

Alamo Heights is a very nice neighborhood inside of San Antonio. Most of the homes there are $400+k with several in the multi million dollar range. It's between the nice downtown area (Riverwalk) and Fort Sam Houston. Lots of high ranking military and medical contractors.

I have sympathy for the family that lost their son but it doesn't go beyond that. It is very unfortunate that backup didn't arrive in time because the officer reported his location incorrectly. Could this all have gone completely different? Absolutely and you can start with the kid's action that started that snowball rolling. A very large number of the facts in this situation have been confirmed by friends of the kid yet most of you FTP people won't ever believe it. He was very likely drunk after a night of bar hopping and this was confirmed by a friend who was with him. A neighbor of Redus heard a good portion of the scuffle and heard the officer give over 60 commands. Audio of the incident "reportedly"(the audio will be released at some point) confirms the repeated ignored commands and scuffle. Let's all focus on the word "campus" in the "campus police officer" title because that is key in this entire incident for the dfwmustangs police jurisdiction experts. He is a officer of the law regardless of what other words are thrown into the title. If the officer had ignored this kids erratic driving and he later crashed into an innocent families car most of you would be bitching about why the officer didn't do anything. If you cannot deal with the consequences of your actions then don't play the stupid game in the first place.
Here are some items I can confirm that most should be aware of and require little to no common sense. I am even fully capable of all these items when I am trashed. 1. Don't drink and drive. 2. If you do drink and drive and get caught then resisting or running will worsen the situation significantly. 3. Resisting arrest for any reason could quite possibly escalate and the grand prize could be a bullet. 4. Don't take an officers weapon and use it against him.
