Well since you obviously lack basic reading comprehension, I'll do you a favor and spell it out. I said I paid and did everything else required of me except I made a choice not to pay the surcharges. That's on me and my conscience, nobody else. I have a job, pay for truck and insurance for it, pay my mortgage and bills, and provide for my fiancé and her little girl. Far from being a bottom feeder.

Hell, I went the three mandatory suspension months without a license, because in order to drive to work and the grocery store the surcharges were gonna be ridiculous. I literally just went to work and to the grocery store in that time period. I figured the state and other places were already getting me for $7,000, I'm not paying MORE for those three months to survive and get to work in order to pay THOSE charges.

Quit being such a smartass. You have any idea what a fucking SCAM the surcharge program is? Let's say you get a no insurance ticket, forget about it, and don't get up there the allotted 21 days. Not only do you have to pay the $5-600 ticket to the city which citied you, but then the State decides they want their cut too, at a rate of $260/yr for 3 years. So your total fine amount just jumped to $1280.

Same goes for speeding. $250 speeding ticket turns in to $1030. Explain any sense of reason, logic, or necessity for that.

You might also want to brush up on your Texas law. This bullshit program was created, because of a multi million dollar budget defecit. That's it. The State was short millions, and needed a way to make that money up. The Driver Responsiblity Program is a direct result of that.

You can call him a piece of shit all you want. I think you're a piece of spineless shit, for being so quick to judge someone that's sticking it to the state, on unlawful laws. This, in essence, is double jeopardy. You are paying twice, for the same crime.

There are plenty of laws I don't agree with, the surcharges being one of them. Disagreeing with the law does not remove the obligation to abide by them, nor does it justify driving with a suspended license for 5 years.

Poopnut good luck with your fight but like bcoop said its going to be pointless. Im curious because my brothers has surcharge fees and has had his license suspended around the timelines given.

I'm not gonna raise hell about it or anything. I'm not that kind of person. I'll research it, try and make some calls, and if there's nothing I can do, there's nothing I can do. No point crying over spilled milk. First thing that has to happen though is congress passing it. It looks good, but with the deficit estimate to be around 18 million dollars, who knows if the people who want it done will put their money where their mouth is. Luckily, Texas congressman don't make shit. Their money comes from being wealthy businessmen.

Tell him to apply for the program. If it is a surcharge from 2011 he's SOL. If it's basy from '04 to '08 then he can just pay the new amount with no penalties.

Most of the people that are paying on current ones are kinda screwed with this program(being that they'd be up to date and not owing on surcharges from '08 or earlier). Those of us that are "bottom feeders" are the ones who benefit the most.

Bottom line, tell him to apply for the amnesty program and see if he can get his surcharge debt reduced.

I did it for him. He doesn't qualify. I've been spreading the word to others about this. Almost everyone I told had no clue about this.
