  • leave an id to get fuel?

So, I pull up in the big red company truck pulling a company trailer. This station right out of the seventies has no pay at the pump so I go in and tell attendant I would like to fill it up. He takes the company card and sez I need to give him my id. I don't do that so I take the card back and go across the street and drop $500 or so in the tanks.

Was I wrong? Do you leave your dl in that situation? Just didn't sit right with me and I put at least $2000 a month in and haven't run across this before, but everywhere else hac pay at the pump. I won't go back there.

Uhhh... Yeah. I've been doing that for nearly 20 years when I didn't know the attendant.

I normally see clerks holding the card, but not IDs.

I guess that is where I'm at. I gave him the card. I'm not giving a stranger my dl. Just not my way. I guess they loose money but with risk comes reward. He wasn't willing to risk so I took my reward across the road.

Side note as I was fueling some numb skull hit the button to stop all the pumps. I don't understand why people do the things they do.

I guess that guy thought I was the idiot. I can live with that.

I could see that in a small mom and pop station. You could have easily picked up that credit card off the ground, or stole it, where the DL would be harder to pass off.

x2 on common practice. Generally I know where I'll have to fill up on my route if I'm in the big truck, and generally pick the truck stops that don't arn't a hassle.
