  • at the ER. not fun

Well had to take my old lady tonight to the ER for high blood pressure. I mean it was crazy high. Like 244 over 120. Well we visit our daughter up in nicu for a second since we was here. But they have us here in the trauma section. Just alittle to crazy down here for me. I also don't like over hearing them say CLEAR. Not good to hear. Trying to keep my mind and ears off from what's going on around me.

Unmedicated I am a 150-160/110-120 range BP. I have never heard of anyone hitting in the mid 200's.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

It's called a Hypertensive Crisis. Can happen for a variety of reasons. I had a patient once that mixed a certain class of anti-depressants with another class of anti-depressants called MAOIs and had a hypertensive crisis as a result. 220-230 systolic.

Preeclampsia can occur up to 6-8wks post delivery. Treated with bedrest, magnesium and hydralazine along with supportive care.

OP, hope they have recognized this as preeclampsia and are treating appropriately. Keep us updated.

I've had several "crisis" where my BP hit 200+/110+ with heart rate 95+ BPM and had to go to the ER.

One of them I believe was triggered by an energy drink, the others appear to be stress related. My normal BP readings average out to 121/76 with 75BPM heart rate.

I was 157/114 years ago and it scared me, my dad said I was at stroke level and went to the Doc. I stay around 125/95 most of the time without meds. keep us posted, hope everything clams down for you.

My BP is around 110/70 now. It use to be higher before I lost 40 pounds. Now I lift weights and ride my standary bike.

yea they got her on some meds and got her bp down to 125 over 75. she has had high bp since she was 19. something to do with her kindey problems.

You guys better keep really good insurance on her as it's gonna be very expensive to manage her problems as she gets older. I assume she has what is called renal artery stenosis...basically the arteries that feed the kidneys are narrower than they should be and the bloodflow to the kidneys is less than it should be...this tricks the kidneys into thinking that the total blood volume/pressure is low and the kidneys activate what is called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system which increases volume by various mechanisms...this leads to hypertension and if not adequately treated (the narrowed renal arteries), kidney failure over time (google it!).
It would have been better had it been just preeclampsia...
