My steel dove tail weighed 3000lb. 18' long. It was stout.

Aluma says the aluminum one I just bought weighs 1600.

My wood floor 18' is right at 2000lbs, will hold a 5000lb load.

Yea, getting a vehicle in Tuscaloosa, it can tow 6200 lbs, cars hauler weighs 2000, so I'm looking at renting a mid size SUV under 4k that could tow the car hauler there, then pull the rental car back to Texas.

What about flying in and just driving it back.

Be sure the car is road-worthy. I've heard some horror stories of "fly in, and drive it home".

My brother has done it. He changes the oil n filter, drained and refilled the radiator, filled the fuel tank and took off. He had to get the radiator recored about half way the last time. I'd suggest a paid up AAA membership for towing purposes, or at least that's how he got it to the radiator shop. Do it during the week when things are open in case you need parts and can fix it or if you need something fixed for you they will be open.

Another one he and my dad went and my brother told me never with him again. They took a truck that was too small for the trailer/new toy they picked up. Not a fun trip as the fuel pump took a $hit in Az and the crank sensor in el Paso. Plus the 3/4 t truck needed to be a dually but that was the next excursion. They have way more vacation time than me or I'd tag along on some of their adventures.
