  • Ever get the feeling the schools are puttin the screws to you?

They throw a dress code on you, then sell you the only jackets you can wear. Hoodies, no matter how cold it gets. Then they come up with a slick idea that on a specific friday, if you pay "X" amount you can wear what you want.

My son comes in today and says he has a solo in band practice. I say "Cool". He says he needs $8:00, I say what for? He says for the solo??? So they encourage the kids to do a solo, then charge them for it. If they don't pay, they don't get the solo part. I'm sorry, but that is just fucked up.

What? That's a stupid idea. Any way to forward your opinions on that to the school administrators? They're supposed to encourage children to develop skills. Charging parents for that only causes the kids to be held back.

I'd rather he do a solo at home and hand him the money myself , for him to spend.

I remember the only time I had to pay is when I attended a solo ensemble off campus.

You are kidding right? At least when I was in highschool we had to pay a bunch of money to participate in sports. Then come the charges for letter jackets, banquets, constant requests for donations, bullshit fundraisers, and just about every additional cost that could possibly be applied.

Yalls program must have sucked or you weren't on a well treated team. In football we got 2 pairs of practice and game cleats, workout gear, an any other gear for playing we needed. Track we got a pair of asics, wind breakers, spikes, and other minor stuff. Powerlifting had all our gear too. I never paid for anything unless it was abnormal.

The academic competitions I did cost more than sports.

It was pretty much the same in my school. It was a small 2A that went 1A the year after I graduated. All of my power lifting gear was provided. Hell, our letter jackets were even given to us if we met the requirements.
