My cost per mile is .08. Price of the car was cheaper than the ecoboost fusion I looked at and like the looks and feel better of the VW. I am a die hard Ford guy but the Passat is a nicer car.

It's a serious question because I'm seriously debating on buying a passat or jetta TDI. But if my return on investment takes 200k miles, I'll just get a gasser

I drove an EcoBoost 2.0 Fusion, great motor in a very nice looking car. Almost 300hp in a 4 banger with power to pull 4 passengers and trunk full of luggage. What's not to like, especially if your having a kid. You have to have room for strollers, play pens, diapers, baby seats, etc. I'd invest in the bigger car. My buddy has two kids in a Volkswagen and it sucks with one kid and he just had another kid and is looking to upgrade.

              x-15 on the new fusions
I drive new rentals everyday and those are one of my fav's to drive.. I don't like the kias or Hyundai's once they get about 40k on they feel kinda sloppy imo..

vw's and audi's are nice but to my understanding they are a nightmare to work on and parts are expensive (just from what I've heard)
same goes for bmw... the oil change alone is pricey as hell and im gonna assume parts are through the roof too..

have you considered like a 2011 camry se? those are really nice too

                240 is not almost 300

Bought a Passat TDI a few months ago. Absolutely no regrets! Fun to drive, lots of room and super nice for road trips.

Judging by your $15k pricing point I'm assuming you aren't a union member. The best advise I can give is that if you can't afford to buy a new German car then you most certainly can't afford a used one. Yep they are great for a few years and the quirks are covered by the warranty.

GM and Ford build great cars these days, any of them are going to be rock solid and comfortable to drive. The Camry is an excellent car and with a 4 cylinder it'll kill most full size sedans in fuel economy. My experience with Kias and Hyundais is similar to Stephens, they just seem to fall apart after 30k miles or so. They may run forever but they drive like a 90s Chrysler product.

Subarus to this day still have head gasket problems. If the car makes it to 100k miles it'll probably have the heads off at some point. Not a huge deal but just expect it. It's not something you should have to deal with on a $20k+ car in 2013 though.

TDIs are great and with a manual transmission they can be reliable. Weigh the fuel economy with the fuel cost differences though and higher maintenance costs and it really evens things out.

The problem with an 08 335 or even 330 or whatever is going to be the fuel mileage and the fact that it needs premium. With mostly highway driving you will be lucky to see 23-24 MPG.

And the 335 HPFP issues. Buying a no factory warranty BWM is just pissing money away.

2011+ subaru wrx or sti. Find a 5 dr. We have two and love em! Average mpg is about 23 if you can drive slow but who does that?

That was my suggestion as well. Those cars are just stupid fun to drive. Not all that fast, but it's hard not to smile when the turbo spools up.

We have a 2012 WRX and the 2010 STi. I'd pick the WRX for a daily over the STi. The ride is just less edgy and driving in traffic, the wide ratios on the WRX 5 speed are better than the constant shifting in the STi 6spd.

They are equally fast to 60mph and I think the WRX gets a little better mileage. The wife LOVES driving them and they have plenty of room. The 5 doors are handy for space as well. Also, they seem to be holding their values as well or better than Diesel pickups! It's crazy what the cult following will pay for these cars used.

Oh, and as for fast....we had both at the track this weekend and embarrassed a LOT of serious track cars with essentially stock suspension cars. That is going to change soon as some upgrades are coming. We are going to prep the STi for One Lap of America next May. Should be a blast!

I had a few new altima rentals earlier this year, they got mid 30s with me driving like a retard and always in "sports" mode. They did feel kinda twitchy on the highway, though.
