I don't like this at all. It's a tax grab against the people who do quick flips on cars. Plus, I want my hardcopy. There is something very satisfying about having a paper title to your car locked in your safe.

wait, it just says new cars. Wouldnt this be because they dont come with a title, just an MSO?

it surely would help with the "help me find this car/truck" threads we see every couple of months, since you might be able to log in and transfer the title at the time of sale.
Yeah, but in private sales, how are they going to handle the transfer? I'm damned sure not going to go into a strangers house and enter my info on his computer, nor would I trust him to fill out the paperwork for me. If they let you transfer it when you get back to your house, what proof do I have that I bought the car?

I am the same way when it comes to the hard copy, I like having something tangible that I can access even when the internet is down.

It's new cars right now, but the press release from the DMV is implying that everything will switch before long.

Well it will obviously, for those reasons you just posted, not be the same for used cars.

New cars dont have title yet, they have to be sold and then titled. So the dealer has to to a stack of paperwork on that, then walk it into the DMV, and the DMV has to do a bunch more paperwork to then print the title issuance.

From what is posted in the OP, that process is what is changing. Are they also not printing and mailing a title? It doesnt say that above?

Currently, there are more than 25 million titles in the state’s motor vehicle database. These represent existing paper titles.
“Not everyone in Texas is going to receive an eTitle overnight,” Brewster said. Texans with existing titles keep their paper ones.
To me, that means that you keep your paper title until you sell or transfer the car, then they will give you the e-title option.

“We are just starting to roll out webDEALER for customers buying new vehicles from franchised dealers,” Brewster said. “From there, we will move on to used vehicle dealers, salvage dealers and private sales.”

I know, it's insane. It's like the people that do their banking on their smart phones. I just don't get it. I use 12 character password and still managed to get my Origin game account stolen. I got it back, but it still took time and frustration to get my shit back from some prick in russia.

Would it blow your mind to know that some states dont issue a paper copy of a title at all?

Hell, some states don't even have titles on vehicles over a certain age. Indiana is one of those states.
