  • DISH contract up...can I save some money now

My 2 year DISh contract is up. Can I get a better deal by calling and haggling or whats the best way to do this. I swapped to DISH 2 years ago when DIRECT wouldn't get me any DVR's...

Hell, usually you don't even have to wait for the contract to be up. Just call them and tell them you are contemplating switching, and ask what offers they can make.

We recently upgraded our dish service to the Hopper and have been pretty happy with it. Prior to that we had 3 DVRs (2 controlled 2 TVs each, and one was stand alone). We decided to try out the Hopper since 2 of those TV's were hardly ever used.

Overall we have been treated pretty well with Dish, and have had them for 5-6 years.

I have 3 dvr's . don't use a single one. Im too darn busy to watch TV at any length. Ususally just when we're eating or cooking dinner.

That's the thing I love about the DVRs.. It's nice to let recordings build up so that when you do have time / interest in watching, you have plenty to choose from. And I have watched all of about a dozen commercials in the last year.

They didn't charge us anything to upgrade and our monthly bill went down since we cut the number of dvrs / TVs we had. We also cut back some of the programming (the number of "free" channels).

Before Leah and I got married I did without cable / satellite for like 3 years, and I was fine with it. We got it for the kids primarily, but they barely watch TV anymore since they either are gaming online or streaming shit. I would be ok cancelling it again and using the antenna only, but would still want a media PC or DVR of some sort so that we didn't have to watch live network TV (with commercials).

I called dish and told them direct came by and offered me their top 250 free NFL Sunday ticket for 1 year and 3 DVR dual tuners free instillation and they would take care of the rest of my contract with dish all for $75

I got NFL red zone free for 2 years (Ehh it's alright but I'd rather have the ticket)
I got all the movie channels for 3 months
I got every sports channel they offer
                  All the outdoor channels
And they knocked $40 off a month
                  "Yeeeeehhhhhaaaaawwwww that's my jam"

I have dish with two Hoppers, three Joeys, 250 channels, HD, and Sling. My bill is $100. I did have to talk them into that price tho.

I actually cancelled my Dish service because they wouldn't give me free hoppers and signed up for Charter. They screwed up my order though, of course being Charter. I called Dish a couple of days later and talked to their retention department who gave me two free hoppers, one with sling and two Joey boxes free of charge for a 2 year renewal.

Story? I remember us chatting back and forth when the Hoppah first came out. I've been very satisfied with mine.

I wish we could get Fios. Unfortunately, we live in an older neighborhood and Verizon isn't in a big hurry to expand their services to cover us.

We have the Hopper and 3 "Joeys", for 4 TVs total. I think we still have Uverse for interwebs.
