When does a company give up or when do you pay??

Had a friend go through a similar situation and then, after it was all agreed, paid Etc .

About a year after a collection company called and wanted the balance and remember he fought it but, seems like he ended up paying it all then plus interest.

The above is why I got everything in writing from the CFO before I sent them a dime. And again, as "paid in full"...

My gf recently had a routine appendectomy that, all told, cost in excess off $40k. The cost for medical care in this country is retarded.
