I wouldn't pay them shit. Especially if I had attempted to refuse service and they had coerced me with some bullshit line that I "had" to get on their helicopter for a $14,000 ride. I doubt you were in the right state of mind to enter into any agreements after having just been in an accident.

As for writing off medical debt on your federal income taxes, there is a dollar value that you have to reach in order to do that. If I recall correctly it is anyting over 7.5% of Adjusted Gross Income. That is a fairly high hurdle to reach.

you mean because a helicopter ride costs $14k and an aspirin costs $20?

I used to fly offshore in a helicopter a few times a month. I promise you it didn't cost anywhere near that to fly out there.

The man flat out told them NO

Excellence response. Seems well thought out.

You mean medical care in this country, like just about every other service, is a fucking scam? Who knew!?

I was aware of what was going on until they put me under. Completely coherent is debatable.. My buddies that were with me can tell some pretty funny stories about them trying to put me in the chopper. I was loud and slightly inappropriate. I kept telling them to put me in th back of my truck with my dog.

Careflight can 110 percent be a life saver.
They also tend to jump at the opportunity to pick folks up wether it's life threatening or not.. It's pretty well documented as i found out.

Medical industry is where the money is. You don't get wealthy curing illness, you make it by treating it. Same with running up unnecessary charges. Only defense I will give the medical field is tht if people/insurance companies would pay bills, then we wouldn't be charged out the ass for things. Well as long as they didn't have crooks trying to get over on crooks.

                  Annnnd thread resurrection....

Care flight took $1000 and the account is closed and showed/documented as paid in full. No tax liability or credit issues as it is paid in full. CFO sent me an email stating the above with a letter in the mail.

                  Wooowooo

That's great. I've got some medical bills I need to do the same thing with.

Most companies won't do that, but at least per my bank (B of A), they can.

I got burned on that on a vacation that I had scheduled once. I paid an initial deposit and the rest was due 60 days from the travel dates. About 75 days prior I cancelled (verbally and in writing) with the travel agent, which was within the "no penalty" period. But on that 60th day prior, they still hit my account for the remaining balance. I contacted the bank (after the agent) to see if I could dispute the charge and they said I could not. Because I had paid them with my credit card "at some point", that gave them authorization to debit that account again at any time in the future.

I ended up getting a full refund, but had to jump through a number of hoops to get that done.
I don't trust banks/creditors and for that reason, I like to use a virtual credit card # that is one time use and has a limit that you can set on it. They run it once and then you don't ever have to worry about it again.

My gf recently had a routine appendectomy that, all told, cost in excess off $40k. The cost for medical care in this country is retarded.

Just so I'm not giving off the wrong impression here.

I had 5k out of pocket for everything else related to this injury that I paid off within the year, I have never been late for a payment on anything in my entire life, work my ass off and always will, and didn't vote for Barry.

Barry should be referred to as "BuckWheat"
