  • When does a company give up or when do you pay??

Found myself pondering this question while I am waiting for a meeting to start.

History: Splattered myself on the motocross track in 2010. I had health insurance through my employer at the time and not much money in savings. Who needs money in the bank when you party and ride motorcycles 24/7 ??? I tried to refuse getting in the heli but they kept telling me I was in shock and had no choice. I had snapped my femur so they could have been correct that it was a mandatory ride.

Health Insurance paid $1k towards ambulance. My broke dick ass is left with 14k careflight bill remaining. Once the dust settles I try to apply for grants/ assistance through careflight, fight my insurance company, etc... Nothing pans out so we start a payment plan. They want $4xx a month and I tell them I won't give them a cent over $25 a month. CF reluctantly aggress.

So, here we are three + years later and I call them once a month to pay $25 which takes about 5 minutes of my time. Why they can't auto-withdraw is beyond me.

The last few months they are offering to settle for half. Which is around 6k at this point.

Part of me wants to pay it like I probably should.

Other part of me wants to string it along forever.

Lets hear the DFWM voice of reason...

If they were happy with $25 a month that is what I'd continue to pay them. Or perhaps offer 2-3k if you reall want to get rid of it.

tell them you could get a title loan against your car for $1500, but that's all you could possibly do... otherwise you'll just have to keep paying them $25/mo for the next FORTY THREE YEARS

Nope. Not because I don't want too but life got in the way shortly after my yard sale. Graduated school, got a suit and tie sorta gig, snagged a lady, made some offspring...

Once Junior is old enough we will do some riding.

I got a bill for $7k of a $14k bill. At the time there was no way I could pay it off but over years. So I just ignored the bills and started an auto pay of $50 a month. They sent me a couple of applications for financial assistance, but I knew if they saw my income, they would not cut me any slack so I ignored it. It might be 14 years before it was paid, but I was going to pay it. Through no work of my own, at some point they dropped the bill to like $300. I didn't even know it until they called me once because for some reason they had not got the payment. The whole system is a gamble. They want to see how far they can stretch someone. There is no set formula on what you get charged. I think since they already got the payment out of the insurance they cut me some slack, but still, to go from $7k to $300 in 6 months, I ain't complainin'.

I bring up the 30+ years it's going to take every time I call. One of the ladies that answers remembers me and thinks it's amusing.

I've got my boy riding (inconsistently, although inconsistent). I just need to get a bike to join him. I think I'll be forced to trails from this point on.

if they offered to drop half, make them a offer back, like whatever you can pay, 600 or whatever, they want to clear the books I'm sure.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

I am okay with trails only at this point in my life. I'm 31 and I hurt like shit head to toe for the first and last hour I'm awake. Motocross and a myriad of other bad decisions are taking their toll. But, keeping active keeps me from being cranky. More I do physically the better I feel. I will just go until i drop.

I have a TRX 90 he has mastered the gas and steering on pretty well with me sitting on the back. I have a CRF50 that I putt around my parents place with that will be his soon enough.

I asked today if they would take $1k so we didn't have to flirt once a month and she turned me down.

                              Also,

Just so I'm not giving off the wrong impression here.

I had 5k out of pocket for everything else related to this injury that I paid off within the year, I have never been late for a payment on anything in my entire life, work my ass off and always will, and didn't vote for Barry.
