  • Well, my father has cancer.

He's had sinus infections/problems for years, so when the side of his face started swelling about 6 months ago we all assumed it was sinus related. It seemed to go down for a bit, but then came back full force so he finally decided to have it checked out last week. They did a few tests and the doc wanted to biopsy his face, and a spot on his neck. We got some results back on Friday. Not good news, AND, it has spread to his lymph-nodes.

I am driving him to UT Southwestern on Thursday for a consultation and some more testing. This is bullshit. He's 63, but last year during his physical the doctor said he was more like 43. Sinus problems and a bunk knee are the only things he has ever had come up. Doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, nothing. I don't get it, and it's killing me. I am extremely close to both of my parents and honestly never expected this type of situation. I feel kinda numb.

Sorry for the long post, just felt like getting it out. Don't really know where to go from here.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

He's got you for support, and that can only help. I will send a prayer for you and your family as well.

Prayers sent. A friend of mines dad just had his last treatment of radiation for lung cancer they took off the lower lobe of his lung. I think the radiation has been the worst part, but he is doing great now.

Sorry to hear. That is a monster that lives in my family. My dad has had non hodgkins lymphoma since he was 39. He will be 61 this year. Been in remission for 4 years now thanks to a bone marrow transplant.

Some people will call it bullshit, but I highly recommend your dad takes high doses of vitamin C and look into vitamin B17. My dad took 10 grams of vitamin C and ate 50 apricot seeds a day when his cancer came back, lets just say that the doctors were baffled when his tumors shrank over 50% with one dose of chemo....

Thanks. I didn't find any of this out until Sunday. I was at a convention all weekend and they didn't want me to be distracted so they waited. The second that they told me, I dropped everything and drove down to Stephenville. I talk to my parents on the phone every few days, if not every day. My dad refuses to let it "screw up" his routine, so he is still working 8hr days and only plans to take off as needed.

My dad had throat cancer & after surgery with radiation lived. He never had a reoccurrence of the cancer & it was in his nodes as well before the surgery.

Sending positive thoughts to you & yours.

Depending on the type of cancer, it's not the death sentence it used to be. Good luck to your pops and family.

Sorry to hear man. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer about 10 years ago and not predicted to make it more than 2. Stubborn bastard is still kickin. He had his prostate removed, I think, and has done radiation. He is now on estrogen shots and a ill herb for his appetite but they have lifted the time frame and have kept the cancer cells from expanding more.
