do whatever you have to to get through it, time heals all bs. I know just how you feel. just like family died, sometimes worse.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

I'm so sorry, Eric. We are still struggling with mine and may end up losing her. Reminds me to update my thread. I might be in the same boat with you.

Sorry to hear this man. We get attached to them more than humans in some (most) instances. My dad's little Pug who was a rescue dog also started acting strange over the course of a week. Well more strange than normal for a Pug. She couldn't use her hind legs properly or sometimes at all. My dad finally took her to the vet and they found a tumor in her brain. Doc said it had probably been there for a while.

My dad made the decision to put her down and it took him to just recently (over a year and a half) to get another rescue dog.

That's what is so terrible about it. Just one day out of the blue they are gone. If only they could tell us when they aren't feeling well.

Earlier this month my parents came to town and saw my house for the first time and hung out for a couple of days. They are getting up there in age, so it is rare for them to travel any more. Sister and BIL came over, and it was really great to have the family together in my home. I think Scully always knew what my parents were, because she seemed to act extra affectionate to them whenever she saw them, and always liked going to Corpus to visit. I'm glad we all got to be together as a family, happy for one last time.

I hope you're doing okay with what you just went through. That has been on my mind a lot also.

Just take comfort in the fact that you were with her. Unfortunately, I've had it both ways. Right before we moved to San Francisco, one of ours girls, Piggie, got too sick and had to be put down. We had the last 3 or 4 days to spend with her nonstop and spoil her. Once she went, we never shed another tear. It was time and we knew it and spent some good days with her. We still miss her incredibly but are at peace with it.

Our other girl passed unexpectedly last Christmas while we were away. We left for Pennsylvania on a Thursday and her boarding place called us that Sunday and said that Lucy was in bad shape. We had to make the decision quickly and were on the other side of the country from her. When we left Thursday she was acting fine. Though she was a 70 lb lab and 12 years old, she seemed perfectly healthy and still had tons of energy. She had a tumor that ruptured that Sunday while at her kennel. I'll never forget opening the door and walking around the house for the first time without her. We knew we did the right thing, but it was just awful to not be there with her.

Yeah, I meant to post this earlier Eric but same thing happened with my Half Mastiff half Great Dane a year ago. She was just fine and dandy. Then one day she threw up and ended up rupturing a tumor in her stomach, filling her stomach up with blood. I was there to the end and also took her to my grand parents house and by myself dug a grave for her. I haven't cried that hard since my uncle passed away when I was 13. I know it sucks man, but you're a tough dude and Crystal and I are keeping Scully and you in our thoughts.

Sorry to hear this, time will make it better.

The dog in my avatar was my best friend, he's been gone for about 6 years now and I still think about him at least once a week.

So sorry to hear that bro Nothing like losing a loved family friend and pet. I still think of my 18 year old cat that passed away 4 years ago everyday. Remember the good times bro, she's not in pain anymore and she loved you more than anything in her life.
