I'm really digging the camping idea. Any state park recommendations? I looked a few up and I'm really liking the west/southwest texas scenery. It's a bit of a drive but it looks like it'd be worth it.Originally posted by 56482only on DFWMUstangs...

Mtn biking is my main hobby right now besides my guns. I got back into it about a year ago when my 12 year old asked me, " dad are those bikes real or just here to make the garage look cooler". She is very athetic and now we ride together every chance we get. I had forgotten how much I loved it. Only a grand for a good bike and there is lots of places to ride around the metroplex.

I agree with you there. I love doing carpentry work. I havnt got into turning wood, because I don't have a lathe. A buddy of mine does and I have jacked around with it a few times, takes a lot of practice. But nothing beats the feeling of looking at something that u made from scratch with ur own two hands.

Here's a Jet "Mini" lathe BRAND NEW in the box for $400
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/tls/4139392450.html Usually about $440-450 then throw in sales tax and shipping..
Better yet, here is a used ShopSmith Mark V for $450. Use it as a lathe, table saw, drill press, etc, etc.. IMO it is great for a hobbyist.
I always tell folks to try turning a pen. It's super easy but you can also get very complicated with Scottish knots and other detailed designs. I call it the gateway drug of wood turning.

The current one is a Delta 46-460, which is possibly the best "midi" lathe on the market. 1HP and variable speed gives it enough umph for most anything I throw at it.
