  • Sears scratch and dent, what a scam.

Our washer went out, and we wanted to replace it with another Kenmore so that the washer and dryer we at least similar, plus Ive had good luck with the brand. We bought them for a pretty good price at the sears outlet in GV Mills.

We found sears has a "scratch and dent" store not too far from us, so we loaded up the kids and went over. About half the store is unopened appliances that I assume are either overstocks or last years models. The other half is beat to hell junk that has been returned. I already priced the new stuff at Sears.com, so I wasn't really happy that the beat up returns were the same price, or HIGHER! Complete waste of time.

We ended up with a better deal from the sears in the mall.

This is what everyone needs to do before heading to an "OUTLET / DISCOUNT" store. Without knowing the new price how do you know if it's a deal?

99% of my purchases are online now. EVEN something like this I would find a deal for then just go pick it up.

I noticed the same thing when we sent to Sears S&D a few years ago for a fridge. Ended up ordering it online new for less than anything in the S&D. Stupid as hell.

Sometimes you can find deals there, most of the time its over priced junk.

Same with pawn shops, used cars, etc. You must know what the stuff really sells for new to know if the price is good.

It's funny you mentioned used cars.

Been looking for a possible replacement for the Ranger lately.

I know what vehicles I'm looking for and what they are worth, and most of these guys want like 3 times what they are worth in AWESOME condition... and they're usually in junk shape.

I have no idea what kind of morons pay that much money for turds with a somewhat-new MAACO paint job.

My fridge just went out after 9 years week before last. After checking on here and some advise from coworkers, i went to Sear Outlet in Mesquite TX. The first fridge I picked was a 30 Sq Ft stainless. Looked very clean at first, I was hoping to find one close to new as possible.

Well the ice maker didn't work, there more scratches hidden under the sales stickers, and there was an apple sauce packet back in the bottom of the fridge I found when disinfecting it.

Needless to say I called them and they said I could get it repaired or come pick out a new fridge. I went up there (Talk directly to a manager BTW) found another fridge I liked this one has a VERY small scratch out of sight, but was a nicer model, 300.00 more.

I asked if they would do the same price, but they ended up meeting me in the middle and followed my home to deliver and get the old broke fridge.

I looked up the part number and the cheapest I could find it online was 2000.00 after tax. So I saved 600.00 off that after a bit of dealing with a small headache.

The one I ended up with had tape on the inside, unused water filter, etc.. so it was brand new.

So there are generally some deals out there, but you will have t deal with some B.S. I'll most likely just buy new next time.

always ask to talk to a manager, they have power to give deals and usually will to move dead stuff.

Sounds like things have changed in the recent years. I bought a Kenmore frig from the Sears scratch/dent outlet about 6 years ago. I got it $400 off the retail price. Still working fine. You're not going to get much off if it's just minor cosmetic scratches. Mine has a sizable dent on left hand side that faces the wall. That's were you have room to haggle.

Never bought appliances from lowes after they sold me a 3yr old fridge as new.

Technically you can say it was new since it was never used. After the compressor broke after 1 week and the ice maker broke a day after getting the compressor replaced. Looked at the date. Been sitting at a warehouse for 3+yrs. Manager still didn't want to replace it or refund. Had to send the vp of the southern market a letter with my lawyers business card attached to get a refund. 30 day return policy my ass.

That's what we did. The coupons are good for your entire purchase. We also coupled it with an already on sale product and an additional 10% cash back on a purchase of up to $1500 from Discover. Made out like bandits on a new fridge, and a new wash and dryer to replace the stuff the previous homeowners took from the house we bought. That made it sound bad, we knew they were taking them, it was in the contract. We didn't want them anyway.
