        • So what's the pay out for these guys? I couldn't really find anything. Are they millionaire playboys and it doesn't matter or are they making enough to cover travel, shipping, parts, and bragging rights?

          • How was the attendance? You see it on tv around the world and they always have a huge crowd.

I've been trying to find out also.

Based on the reports we found, there's no prize money given at the Red Bull Air Race; most pilots receive money from their sponsors. Common salary band for pilots is £40,000 to £70,000 a year. The winner gets a trophy and a medal respectively.

In an article from AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) published in 2010, American pilot Michael Goulian said that “There are some countries that don’t want us flying for money, and England was one of them. They said, ‘Hey, if there’s a lot of money for winning, or for being on the podium, they’re going to fly like crazy.”

Thanks for sharing, wish I'd had a chance to meet you. There are too many local people on here I don't know.

Those pics are not very good but I wanted to add them anyway. The sunlight situation on Sunday was terrible - at least for my equipment. It's a Nikon D5200 using a Nikkor 55mm-200mm telephoto lens. I just used the 'Sport' setting on the camera for fast action scenes and the ability to just hold the button down to take photo sequences. Also, the light poles, local buildings, and the track itself really interfered with getting clean photos. In retrospect, I should have used other settings to get the exposure time up and allow propellers to be blurred. A better telephoto lens would have really helped too. I'm still a novice and there's a lot to learn.
