                Wow, that sucks man.

I didn't see the show, but was there any explanation why the table appraised so high or the fur so low?

SO wait a minute, one ugly rusty fucking table won this whole show for one of the teams?

                  Total BS

The way they explained it on the show was that the fur was racoon, which isn't worth much. They didn't really go into much detail on the table other than to say "mid century modern" was very popular right now. But as Matt mentioned, the condition wasn't very good and they did not seem to discount for condition on the table like they did on other stuff.

As he said, it was pretty clear to me that there was a "fix" for "good TV", even before his behind the scene explanation. I really think that Matt and his woman got screwed and should have won. They were clearly ahead on all 4 events.

They were kicking the shit out of both those teams in all challenges. I question the validity of the table purchase. It just happened to be available for 1/4 of what the known value is and at the right moment. They asked the seller if he had something worth $500 and he just decided to sell the table at a fraction of that. total bs. All the chrome legs were rusted and it looked like the bottom of the table was rusted. AND it is puke yellow.

Besides, Matts wife was the hottest chick on the show. That's worth at least $100.

BTW.. I have seen spurs on Antiques Roadshow, which I am slightly embarrassed to admit I have watched weekly for 20 years, and I agree that the value should have been closer to $1k, if not more. Custom, well known Texas born maker, in great condition circa 1900. The fact that they are rounded on the spinner part tells me that they were more for show than use (spurs designed for real use would have been sharp) but that may further increase the value in some cases.

The last set I saw on Antiques Roadshow that were approximately the same age and attributable were slightly more attractive, similarly ornate in different ways, and were appraised well over $1k as I recall.

Edit.. Just did some googling and they were appraised at $2,500 - $3,500 10 years ago!

Well, FWIW, that's basically the same thing that happened with the spurs.... I still don't think that table and chairs were worth anywhere near $700 in that condition.

The spurs were priced at $375. The seller only went down $75. That is a lot more believable than the table situation.

Yeah but he "guaranteed" that they would be appraised at "nearly $600"..

Ah, I didn't hear that in the show.

TBH, it sounds like the argument isn't so much about the table and the spurs but more about why the coat appraised so low on the show.
