But it put the fear in me for sure... now it's multiple jack stands, a tensioned jack, and I bump the vehicle and TRY to knock it off the stands before I crawl under it!

Glad you're alright. I think it happens to more car guys at some point than we care to admit!

Exact same thing I was doing. Was disconnecting the rear to put in the lowering blocks. Ended up dropping it much lower and faster than I was planning!!

I built 2x4 stands for the tires. About 10" tall. Most of the time the car sits on those to get it off the ground. If I need more room, I use jack stands ON those blocks.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

            Stepped Wooden Ramps

I use homemade 2"x12" stepped wooden ramps with stops at the end so the car can't roll forward past the stops. I always drive my car onto these ramps when performing serious work. If I have to jack the car up off the ramps, I leave the ramps under the tires/axles so they will still catch the car if it falls. I definitely don't want to get squished.

Never jack a GM vehicle from under the front skid plate, they tend to slide off the jack and make a really loud noise hitting the ground. Luckily I wasn't under my truck and the only casualty was a slightly bent hood prop rod.

I made some of those for my Mustang when I had it.. But that was just so I could get a floor jack under the car (was too low, lol).

Whaaaaaat? Don't let them give you the 800 Ibuprofen's either. Had my Doc try and pull that shit on me once. If OTC meds would work do you think I'd be paying a copay motherfucker?

Yea, my mistake was waiting a couple days after it happened because I thought I was awesome like that but after literally not sleeping for a couple days I went to my Doc who turns out was out of town and the fill in guy was too worried about me having blood clots waiting to kill me so they had me go to this other place and by the time I was done there my doctors office was closed. FML. Their message says give up to 48 hrs for a call back. Bull shit I'm gonna limp my ass in there first thing tomorrow and put my black/blue/purple/green leg right on the counter. Sucks I can't just stay drunk because I got kids to pick up and take to their shit they do.

You could go to the ER, but most copays on that are so prohibitive that unless your leg is hanging by a string of skin it isn't worth going in. I've had that same prob with my Doc wanting to wait 48 hours on refill authorization, THEN telling me, no, you have to come in, oh, we have an appointment in 4 days! It's infuriating how the medical industry in this country works. I'm sure Obamacare is going to make everything more streamlined, like government always does!

My insurance just got changed. The urgent care copay went from $50 to $20 but the ER copay went from $100 to $250. Knowing my family and our frequent ER visits, FML.

Fortunately, all of our PCP's are good about getting us in same day if we call first thing in the morning.

And I don't know about yours, but copays on mine don't count to deductibles. So even though our deductible is only $250 PP and $750 family, copays, even for the ER don't count towards deductibles. Our only hope in the ER is that you are admitted, because then the copay is waived.

This all changed when they involuntarily moved us from BCBS to Cigna a month or so ago. Other than that our coverage is basically the same though.

I always max out with the pay-up PPO plan. As I said before, we use the shit out of it.
