  • My car was hit last night...

Someone hit the passenger side door hard enough to bust the window. Now I'm trying to find someone to come replace the glass, and started working with the insurance company.

I'm insured through Geico, and they want me to take it to a body shop that has one of their adjusters on site. Do I have to allow them to cut a check directly to whatever body shop I use? Or do they have an option to cut the check to me and I'll fix it myself?

Also, any hookups on glass in the mesquite or Garland area? :-(

Man that sucks. Forget the glass! Just replace the whole door. I would let the insurance cut you a check & mount the door yourself & get the painter hookup on the donor door. Might be able to pocket some money out of this shitty thing make lemons in to lemonade!

Yup. Hell, might be able to find one the same color. Shitty deal, man.

They should have you go to their preferred body shop, get an estimate, then tell them you're going to fix it somewhere else. They should cut a check in your name.

if its a cheap daily beater fix the glass and call it a day. no need to go into cosmetics on something that will happen again if you park on the street a lot or park in crowded parking lots...

Stop wiping your ass too, you're just going to take another shit anyway.

Find a used door, shouldn't be too tough.

Silver is a popular color for that car, find a used silver door w/glass and be done.

That definitely isn't just cosmetic damage.

                          Yep, that's the plan.

Perfect! If it wasn't a metallic I'd just paint it myself. But that's too much work too much risk of messing it up. I'll get in touch with you when I'm ready for paint (assuming I can't find a silver door!)

That's a great idea! I already don't wash dishes, since I'm gonna eat off them again anyways. Never make the bed either, just gonna sleep in it every night. Hell, you just saved me even more time!
