Haha.. Don't get me wrong, I know it's not all glitz and glamour like it appears to be! But I love camping and long road trips.

I'm sure it would get old after a couple of months.

Keeping in mind, my dad has been a truck driver for most of my life, and I have ridden along with him a dozen plus times. Granted, he was mostly regional, and all my ride alongs were when he was driving log trucks.

If you've got good established clientele, it can be good.

But to just up and say "I want to start hauling cars" without any sort of connections? You and every other kid who just bought his first diesel truck

I think he's talking trucking, not necessarily car hauling. Or, at a minimum, hauling race cars with class 8 trucks, not pick up trucks and car trailers.

Having worked in the industry, financing trucks for heavy duty truck driving, the best money I saw for owner operators on a regular basis was for cross country movers. Like Atlas, North American, ETC. Those guys were bringing home $300k+ a year, net, on average. That afforded them the best trucks too. As in Pete 379's with 120"+ fully self contained custom sleepers. Although, they were also on the road 11 months out of the year.

Actually it was expensive and slow so that statement is invalid. And I too used state 2 state and it was a terrible experience. On several occasions they flat out lied to me on the phone, I waited for over a month for a truck with a winch trailer, paid extra for a winch trailer. Driver finally shows with a pick up and trailer with no winch, luckily the seller had a comalong, and the driver didn't speak a lick of english.
Communication sucked. Some may have had good experience, but not I.
