  • Biggest small block ever...

    I wonder if this will fit in a Fiero...or a older 5.0....

Upgrading your street ride with a bigger, more powerful engine, is something every enthusiast has either done or dreamed of. For Ford fans, the new Ford Racing Z460 might just be the new holy grail.

It's not the most powerful engine in the world, nor is it the most insane. But it's still pretty badass.

The Z460 is the largest small block crate engine Ford Racing has ever built, packing 460 cubic inches, or 7.5 liters into its 351-based block. According to the team behind it, it's streetable. And it puts out 575 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque. On pump gas. It even comes with a two-year/24,000-mile warranty.
As this dyno video shows, peak power arrives at 5,500 rpm, while peak torque hits at 4,700 rpm--but there's over 540 pound-feet on tap (and close to 400 horsepower) from just 3,500 rpm.

The new crate engine will run you $9,999 without a carburetor, intake, or accessories.

That seems like a lot of coin and displacement per horsepower.

I dunno. I'd want to see how thick those cylinder walls were before I tried anything.

I just read the press release, the Ecoboost crate engines were more exciting in my opinion. These are probably being built in Addison.

Oh, I am aware of these bad boys. I was watching TV and they were doing an interview in the pits of a "Compact" race and a guy running a yellow Caviler with twin turbo Ecoboost was pushing something like 800hp from a little 4cyl....lol

Though, I think this would be a better choice just due to the low end torque. Sure it has a lower RPM (Power Band) but you can compensate for that in the tranny ratio. So take low end torque, put some extra power on the top end a good tranny and BAAM!

But then again, I have not been to the track in YEARS nor have I kept up with recent tech.

Just so we are clear, the 351W was the small block. I always knew the M or C to be the big blocks.

The M and the C were both also small blocks. The M simply had a big-block bell housing pattern. To this day I miss my 351C.
