Apple launched its new operating system and highly anticipated iPhone 5S and 5C last week. And while any new tech release will come with both praise and critique, it’s a fake ad that has duped Apple users truly fired up.

The ad claimed iOS7 would make iPhones waterproof — which some users apparently fell for, the U.K. Independent reported, as if a software update can really make your phone water retardant.

“Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof,” the fake ad, which popped up on social networking sites, states. “In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone’s power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone’s delicate circuitry.”

Not long after the fake ad started to circulate on social networks, tweets like these began to pop up:

My pastor washed his iphone by accident in the washing machine and when he went to the Apple store to get it replaced, he told them it was broken. They looked at it, realized it had been water damaged heavily, and asked him if he knew how it got broken. He said, "I'm not sure......I don't know if it was the wash cycle or the spin cycle." They laughed and gave him a replacement for free because he was honest and they thought that was funny even though he didn't have the insurance. Apple's customer service is awesome.

i recently had to get an iphone 4s since it was free on my upgrade. I got a text message from a buddy last night saying my twitter account had been hacked. I haven't been on my twitter account in 5 years.

I find it hard to ignore the fact I got an account hacked right after I got an iphone. Pretty sure they are connected.
