This is no get-rich-quick scam -- NASA scientists are looking for study participants willing to stay in bed for two months, earning them $10,000.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration wants to study what happens to people's muscles, bones, and circulation when they're horizontal for an extended period of time, similar to what would be experienced during long-distance space travel.

Study participants would be required to stay in bed for 70 straight days at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

While in bed, study participants can do whatever they like -- play video games, read, use the Internet, eat, have visitors, etc. Using the bathroom and showering would even be done while laying down, somehow.

Participants can only stand if researchers need to run a test.

The study will pay around $5000 per month, which includes two weeks of prep time and two weeks of exercise and re-adjustment afterward.

Sounds easy enough on the surface but could you imagine not being permitted to get out of bed at all for 3 months?

I spent six months on complete bed rest with my youngest. After the first week, I was ready to stab someone. $18,000 isn't enough to do that again!

Leah and I talked about it Sunday (after she saw the article). What I told her is that there is no way that would be worth it to me.. I mean, I assume you are going to still pay taxes on that, so net result isn't a windfall or anything. And the work to get yourself back in shape afterwards, and the potential damage to your body just would not be worth it to me. Even if you net the full $18k.
