I'm sure there are plenty of very intelligent people with facial tattoos and plastic horn implants around the world, but it doesn't change how people "see" them, and many times, those people that "see" them are the ones that are the people that are in the position to employ them. And I'm sure it effects their choice in deciding if they are hired.

Oh I totally get that. I guess my point was that it's not necessarily a career death sentence. I think some people use it as a cultural barometer, and are comfortable with whatever white collar doors that shuts for them. I've always been a creative, so I never had to worry about having a small hoop in each ear.

There are of course limits to this line of thought. I wouldn't hesitate to hire a designer with tatts or gauged ears as long as they had talent, however, if someone came in with horn implants, filed teeth or a wacky donut injected into their forehead, I'd tell them to seek professional help.

Both of my ears are pierced, but I've never gotten the gauge thing.

I have a friend that has his gauged pretty big. He's one of the most gifted Kung-Fu practitioners I've ever seen, works on offshore oil rigs and doesn't give a fuck what you think, so it works for him I guess.

Until he needs another job...

I've been in this industry for most of my adult life, longer than some of the people in this thread have been alive. I see very few, and most are IT, not developers, or game developers. Both have cornered themselves and killed their potential.

I've got a bunch of tattoos and used to have some piercingly but I just don't get the gauged ears. I guess it's because I'm in sales and that would kill my job. My tattoos are all covered at work but you can't hide the ears. I would like to have my ears pierced again but I would never gauge them out. I can't recall ever seeing anybody with gauged ears doing sales work with the public.
