I've seen several homes at Eagle Mountain Lake on Zillow that have their own personal docks and boathouses. And a lot of them had property all the way to the water. I'm not sure where the actual property line is, but their yard is basically right up to the water line.

It seems like these lakefront homes are snatched up quick when they go on the market unless it's a p.o.s. or way overpriced.

My brother built his on Eagle Pt North. Large properties that back up to the lake and rise up several feet for decent flood protection. Drawback is boat access is heavily limited during dry times. Far north end of the lake.

There's a few open lots and at least one built out that are for sale right now.

Building may be an option if we don't find what we want. Ideally we'd like to find one already built with a pool, a dock, and a decent amount of space (around 3000 sq ft or so). There's plenty of them for sale, but we're in no hurry so we're trying to find something at a great price with everything we want, and low taxes. Taxes seem to be all over the place depending on what part of the lake you're on. Here's one that just sold that would have been just about perfect (no dock though):
