looks like this might have been accidental. That is crazy. One minute you're driving the next you fly off into a lake never to be seen for 50 years. That is bonkers. Seems like the kid was probably going too fast and lost control judging by that car. Must be near a sharp bend or bridge. Any large shots of the lake?

Notice both cars still have all the windows rolled up....must've been cold out when they went into the water. Makes me wonder if it was one of those situations where they couldn't get out due to the water pressure....and either didn't have time or didn't think to roll a window down so they could open a door and get out.

I'm betting they discover that the road going in there was screwed up somehow at the time, and allowed for some easy mistake of an unintended detour to a drop-off into the water. Especially since one was an inexperienced 16-year old driver and the other was an old man. Also thinking back how long ago this was and how road crews didn't think as much about that sort of shit back then.

Those cars could have hit the water unknowingly at 35-45mph, and you know no one was wearing a seat belt in those times.

Judging by the impact of that camaro, it's very likely no one was conscious when it hit the water. If that impact happened out of the water, you would think there would be parts of the camaro everywhere.

I don't think that is impact, CJ. Even up high on the fenders are rusted through. I think it just fell apart as they were pulling it out.

When they drained the canal in Interlochen in Arlington 15 years ago, the next door neighbor had half a dozen bikes at the base of his sea wall. The kid, a 20 year old by then, had been throwing his bikes in there, telling his folks they got stolen so he could get a new one. Alex Aimes I think was his name, some here might have known him from the 90's in a mustang and later in a Camaro or Firebird.

It's possible, but why would it be bent to the side that bad? I'm hoping it is, because if it isnt... two cars directly next to each other might be foul play.

That's what I was thinking...the car was just so badly decomposed that it probably pulled apart as they were dragging it out. Looks like they hooked-on to the right side of the rearend and pulled it out from behind, which pulled everything apart from that side.

Think about how bad those first gens rust without being under water their entire life, and the worst areas are generally the quarters and rear sections...which also happens to be the unibody portion. The front is probably only staying together because it is still sitting on the subframe.

Nevertheless, I'm sure they'll be able to tell if there was indeed some impact damage...I'm kind of anxious to hear what their theory will be.

Jimmy Allen Williams, 16, and his friends Thomas Michael Rios, 18, and Leah Gail Johnson, 18, disappeared on On Nov. 20, 1970.
Jimmy, who had a part time job at a grocery store, had bought himself a brand new Camaro muscle car six days earlier.
He told his parents he was going to a football game, but according to reports at the time, he backed up his car to the back door of the home and loaded several shotguns into the trunk with the help of one of his younger brothers.
According to one of his friends called Wayne, the three friends were actually going on a shooting trip.
Wayne said he was had planned to join them but changed his mind at the last minute because there was not enough room for him in the car.
The three teenagers never returned home.
                        Damn. 6 days earlier.

16, part time job, able to buy a brand new Camaro. Think that would happen today?

I wonder what happened to the Sombrero center caps on the Camaro....looks like the trim rings made it but the caps are gone.

EDIT: I wonder if they found the guns too? That would be telling if they did not!
