  • Custom home builder recommendations?

Anybody know anybody? I'm working on securing a lot in an area that isn't the usual pick-a-floorplan subdivision. The wife and I have mid century modern taste, so builders that are used to french country or tin stars and cowskin rugs might not be able to accommodate funky window shapes and roof lines.

    Any idea where to start?

[Disclaimer]This is for a sub-200k house, so keep your Choo$$ Choo$$ comments to yourself, lol[/Disclaimer]

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

What area Blake? I have a friend that does great work, but he tends to work on the north side.

Benbrook. About as south and west as it gets.

In that case, I'll send a good friend of mine's contact down in Cresson.

Be ready to control your temper. Benbrook inspectors have a huge mall cop mentality. My parents drew literally 1000's of homes in benbrook from the early 70's to late 00's. they are red tag ready....

Along those lines, it's really important that all trades are familiar with the local codes. I've seen (and been) a builder new to an area and not familiar with how they "do business". It can be an experience. Go in with your eyes wide open and be prepared to please. Be courteous and ask them what they require of you, then do it.

Thanks a lot y'all for the info. It's very much appreciated.

Good insight on inspectors/codes. That'll help to go into the process with eyes wide open.
