i will always buy a manual over auto when available. the ability to still start your car with a low battery and/or faulty starter trumps all reasons for getting an auto IMO. might be an odd way to look at it but you never know when you really need to leave somewhere and your battery or starter decides to go on strike

RWD + manual trans + LSD = the way god intended. Unless you live at the drag strip or have a long commute in traffic I'll go manual everyday in a performance car.

1 day in traffic for 3 hours bumper to bumper will change everyones mind in getting a manual.

Stick is one billion times more fun, I hate autos. If they kill manual trannys, I'll stick with my older cars.

This. I have daily driven 15 different cars since I turned 16, 11 have been manuals. The first three were autos, then the next 8 were manuals, followed by my 70 cougar, which was an auto, but destined to be a stick until I got sick of it. I don't care how good an automatic is, it will never be as much fun as a manual.

That's what I thought when I bought the 2010 Auto GT, missed a stick, went back to it in the '13. 26 miles to work takes an hour (or longer some days) each way, either stuck on 820 or stuck on 35W.

Plus, I like the exhaust sound from a manual transmission car, the auto just isn't the same!

Manual, I didn't even consider an auto when I bought mine.

I just drove my BIL's 88 LX in traffic today. Its the only time I ever wish a car was auto.

I converted my 86 to a manual and never looked back.

With Tremec building most of the Borg Warner transmissions now and outsourcing it all to India I'd be scared of a manual transmission in most new cars.

DCTs are going to replace slushboxes eventually. Fort has already done it in the Focus and Fiestas, Dodge did it in their Dart, BMW and VW pioneered their use. You get all of the benefits of a manual (no drivetrain loss, additional torque load rating) but with none of the problems of using a clutch.
