Had the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago. Same scenario, was trying to fuel up before going on a trip and the pay at the pump deal was declining my card. Went inside and told the clerk who tried swiping it inside and said nope, it's your card. Wife was with me so I tried her card and it worked fine. Knew something was up so the following Monday(happened late on a Saturday afternoon) I called our CU and sure enough there were already about $4k in charges racked up on our account and more pending. They canceled our cards, reissued new ones, and gave us all our money back.
