  • The great American give up?

Maybe this is better suited for the political forum, so move if needed.

But let's discuss the great American give up.

Graph sure looks like a giant drop off when you only show 4% of it.
Yes, the youth sucks and has no work ethic but 4% = a give up?

Most of the younger people I know would kill for a job. Been in a fast food place lately? It's all 30 somethings because it's the only job they can get.

I'll try to dumb this down for you.

The limited Y-axis is to clearly show the data trend in a relative context.

This is the lowest labor participation rate since the late 70's. unemployment is set from 0, so showing a 4% drop in labor participation, while trying to claim lower unemployment rates is a huge deception.

When your ruler for unemployment measures change at a tenth of a percent, 4% giving up is huge. Thats an order of magnitude. You do understand that right?

          Define youth.

Spot on, many young people are now degreed, so they qualify for the jobs that require a degree many in the 45-65 range don't.

Remember, the youth didn't make the blind requirements for a degree.

The 4% change, that's 12,000,000 people that dropped out of the workforce.

Also a degree doesn't guarantee a job. You will find a lot of degreed individuals qorking jobs that do not require one because the job market for "degree required" jobs is flooded with candidates with degrees and experience

Largely depends on the degree and industry. If you're willing to travel, you can get a job.

I disagree there are lots of jobs out there besides that. Alot of those people dont position themselves to learn new trades or skills so they end up there. This country has so much opportunity yet some choose to not take advantage of it. Your life will only be what you make out of it but its up to the individual.

Having a degree is great! But also having a skill or a trade or even multiple trades will work just as well. There are lots of people who never sat foot in school that do quite well because they have a skill that the world needs.
