Looking into getting LASIK, who are the go to Dr's?

      I'm not disagreeing, just found it curious that a solid number of them still wear glasses.

      It's still on my list of things to consider, especially for my right eye. I have macular scars from a high & tight fastball, along with laser stitching to reattached my retina, night vision sucks, reading sucks, pretty much everything with that eye stinks. I was told they could get it down to 20/25. Vision without correction is around 20/100, but not the clearest. My left eye is around 20/15 with contacts.

        This is exactly how I did my wifes and mine many years ago. You can always try to negotiate a lower price with them too when you go in for consult. I also had a bad astigmatism and have great vision now. Haven't been back to a Vision clinic since so I would assume 20/20 at least but can't state it for sure.

          Contacts really scew up your eyes. I used to wear contacts for 14 years, but these past 2 years I had only wore glasses. When I got my consult they immediately new I wore contacts as they said my blood vessels were showing signs of damage from the contacts.

          I hesitated for years to do lasik, when I was seeing 20/20 the next morning afterwards, I had wish I did it years ago. Now it's been a month and I see better then I can EVER recall seeing with glasses or contacts.

            That is what the best part is. It is so hard to describe the feeling you get when you wake up the next day and immediately see 20/20. It is truly life changing. I spent 2800, and knowing what I know now I would pay 10k if I had to do it all over again for the results I got. It is such a quality of life improver.

              I used Tylock in Jan 05 and have been very satisfied. I set up an FSA for the amount of the surgery so it was taken out of my pay, pre-tax. And since my FSA at the time gave me a debit card with the full FSA balance available, I got a "cash" discount. So cash discount, no cost financing, and all of it pre-tax, I could not pass it up.

              Total for mine was under $3k. I think it was more like $2,400 or so.

                This...best money I've ever spent.

                5 years ago $3150 I believe is what I paid and still would do it again. Hell, I'd pay that every 5 years if I had to, to keep the vision that I have now and not wear glasses.

                  I agree! I remember the first time I woke up in the middle of the night and didn't need to find my glasses first just to check the time. Or the first time I got a hair cut and could see how jacked up your hair is half way through the hair cut. Or putting my glasses down on something and forgetting where I put them, but I couldn't see to find them.

                    Dr. Whitman (key-Whitman) did mine 8 years ago. Very satisfied.

                    My medical insurance did not help pay for it, but they did have prearranged pricing that was a substantial discount.

                      to the guy saying his doctor wears glasses, its like using your own product I would never go to a doctor that had perfect eyesight that would be weird.

                      The only thing that makes me hesitant to do is the giant scalpel ( do they still use it?) people have told me about. If your gonna use that knock me out.

                        Well I have the preliminary appt at key whitman tomorrow at 10am and well go from there I guess. I don't have ins so the exam will cost me $120 if I should decide not to do the surgery or if I'm not a candidate.

                          They make you pay for the consultation?

                          For mine they have this ring device that sucks onto your eyeball. Then a laser device snaps onto the suction ring, and cuts a flap open. Feels like puffs of air on your eyeball when it cuts.

                          Painless, but uncomfortable. Your brain is trying to tell you to freak out because your eye is getting fucked with.

                            My Ophthalmologist who did my lasik also wears glasses. He'd had it done a long time ago, but from what I understand as you get older your eyes can deteriorate.

                            Depends on the person perhaps. My father wore hard contacts for 30 or more years and he was fine. I wore gas perms for 20 and had no issues other than developing bad allergies and had to ditch them. I can see what you said about damage if you are constantly rubbing the shit out of your eyes or if you wear soft and keep them in your eyes for long periods of time.

                              I have negative -9.0 in both eyes. I've been told the only way to surgically correct my vision is to remove the old lenses and get replacement lens implants. They call it Crystal Vision or something like that. The cool thing is that if your eyes change they can change the lens. Apparently it's still really expensive, so I'm holding off.
