This is a very relevant discussion. My son and I were having this very same debate the other night. I grew up in a very strict catholic household. I went to private catholic schools and an all boys cathedral prep run by the brothers of the sacred heart. Mass every morning with a Theology class alongside math, English etc.
Given that my major in college was science. I believe in what can be proven or shown as a constant in our world. We raised our boys to decide for themselves their own spiritual path without the brainwashing.
The real question we boiled down to is, ---As a society, have we outgrown or evolved past our religious past?
I believe that we have.

I like the box analogy. Most likely the "empty" box is actually filled with air. You can't see it, or prove it, but you have "faith" in what science has taught you, that even the empty box, because of earth's atmosphere. It's made up of nitrogen, oxygen, and some myriad of other gasses. I know that it is true...because I read it in a book written by men, with no claim of a higher entity.
Or it has some cat in it, and with no air holes, the world is a better place.sigpic18 F150 Supercrew - daily
