I disagree. I think Toyota makes good vehicles, but I don't believe it's any better then Ford in the full size truck department.

You outa your damned fool mind. Can't really compare a mid size truck to a full size. You want to compare what Toyota did with the Tundra vs. the F150, that is a different story.

Ford makes a great disposable truck. Seems that after 5-6 years the plastics in the F150 start to break or loosen. Not to mention the drive train isnt the best.

Fact of the matter is the interior on US manufacture trucks feels like it is made from cheap plastic. That alone makes me not want one. The tacoma feels much more solid.

Just buy a fullsize. Gas mileage is basically the same, but you will be comfortable and the truck will actually be able to pull stuff, and resale will be better. my .02

Agreed. Hence the reason why smaller trucks are almost extinct.

2001 Chevy Silverado LS 5.3L RCSB 340,000 miles.
Recently replaced the water pump(bearing wore out, lost its seal). A/C is going out(not compressing good), replacing it next spring. Both are the original parts.

I feel like I've saved a ton of money, but I don't get the luxury of riding in a new truck every 3-4 years. At this point, it's my hauling/work vehicle, when my daily won't do the job.

Strong value for 20grand, 12years ago.

I would just buy fullsize personally after owning a few mid size and full size...

And, I disagree with the current and recent quality of Toyota trucks being any better than Domestic Full Sizes. My dads 11 Tacoma rattles just as much as my old 07 Silverado did. He is way nicer to his vehicles and that was 40k miles on his Taco versus the 108k of abuse my Silverado endured. I felt like the interior was nicer in my 07 as well.

But, just my opinion.

How hard do you drive. I consistently get 15mpg out of my full size 4x4. Got 20 on a road trip a little over a month ago.

My truck is paid off. I don't drive it hard at all. I do use the 4x4 a lot at the ranch. I can just sink some money into it to try & improve the gas mileage. It currently has 140K miles. It does burn oil though or it is going somewhere but not on the ground. Last time I changed the oil it was really low. Transmission slips a little every once in a while but not bad. A/C still works great.

My poor abused 06 Silverado crew cab has 185k+ miles on it. It has been cammed, stalled, 4.11's, full exhaust and tuned for probably 30,000 of those miles. It regularly pulls my 18' car hauler the 850 miles from Texarkana to El Paso and back with many different vehicles loaded on it. The only complaint is the steering column rattle. I just haven't gone in to replace it with the latest version. Even with all I have done, it will get 19.2-19.7 mpg at 75mph and between 11-12 with 5500lbs behind it. Mine is a 2wd but the newer Chevy 4wd's don't drop the mileage that much. I'm not sure I could give up the room just for 1-2mpg.

Agreed, mid sized trucks and SUV's are a waste of time, they get no better MPG's than full size. Chevy, Nissan and Toyota left the minitruck market by upsizing their trucks. Ford abandoned the minitruck market when it dumped the Ranger.

I owned my 08 Tacoma TSS, 4.0, auto, 2wd for about 4 years. 18.5 city/19.5 highway, but I don try to get the best mileage, I try to get there. I traded it in on the 13 GT, and for driving for 4 years, it was pretty cheap to drive. Being a TSS, it wouldn't haul or tow shit. It was a good daily driver with a bed, but I should have got the longer bed TRD and 4wd. Anyone who thinks the build quality on any of the big 3 trucks is as good as a Toyota needs to compare resale. That speaks volumes.

If you really need a big truck, I'd get a Tundra. If I wanted to spend less initially, and watch it bleed equity faster, I'd get a Ford. I would never buy another GM product, nor a Dodge, but some people have good luck with them. I must know everyone that bought their shitty ones.

So much for not trolling, and why not get a full size truck? If its gas milage making you lean towards a smaller truck, you are just plain misinformed, maybe 6or 7 years ago that was true, not anymore. Buy a new f150 the rebates are rediculous right now.

And I have plenty of experience with 97+ f150s and 99+ GM full size trucks to know they run just as long or even longer. Stop drinking the Toyota kool-aid. BTW I own a late model Toyota as well (and it was built in Japan). Their quality isn't superior like it use to be.
