  • Coach just told my 7 yr old daughter "Don't be a mouthbreather."

Daughter is playing soccer and he was addressing the team and told them not to be mouthbreathers. I wasn't paying attention, but that caught it immediately then chuckled, then was confused.

When you play soccer, isn't breathing through your mouth preferred?? Physics shows greater air intake through the mouth vs. Nostrils, I thought, could have fooled me....

That's just the modern day euphemism for saying "don't be a retard". You're thinking too hard on it.

in track, i was taught to inhale through my nose, and exhale through my mouth.. different strokes, i guess. i ran hurdles, so it was a different ball game as far as timing (breath/steps). i get so exhausted playing soccer these days, but i still think i breathe solely through my nose.

i wouldnt take offense, it's a life lesson. Coaches, gonna coach, so to speak..

Through your nose to control your breathing and keep from hyperventilating yourself.

Humm, I always knew to not lean over when you were exhausted but always didn't the majority through the mouth when exacerbated

There what goes? I'm just stating what most people mean when using that phrase. Nothing derogatory meant towards your kid.
