Isn't it ironic that a performance mustang sight has people worried about mpgs? My daily ram 1 ton gets 20 mpgs and can haul all of the previous pos's at one time.
Wife needs something that gets better mileage than 21 mpg for her 80 miles a day commute. My immediate suggestion is Honda civic but wanted to see what the board would suggest. Any newer cars (2010-13) to watch out for when looking for a good gas car?
Bought a 2010 Taurus for $10,700.00 on craigs list. Badass looking car and 28 mpg hwy, 18 city.
2013 focus SE here getting 34.1mpg. Mostly highway travel and usually rush hour traffic in the afternoons only.
My vote is for any of the newer domestic 4-bangers. Fiesta, focus, chevy cruze, etc. My mom has a Chevy Cruze and it's slow, but it's comfortable, quiet, and gets great mileage. I had a rental Fiesta, and other than that car being smaller than a gnat's asshole, it was a great little car. You can redline it all day long and still get gas mileage in the ~29 MPG range.
2012 Chevy Cruze w/ 1.4 turbo and 6-speed manual transmission. At 21,000 miles to date averaging 34.3 MPG. I get 39mpg highway on my 160 mile trip home every weekend.
TDI. Love mine. I get 42mpg with mainly all city and trip to dallas from denton twice a week. I fill up once every two weeks. Road trips I easily crank out more. Diesel is the only way to go.
That's kind of like saying riding a sport bike is the only way to go over an econo car. Sure the bike gets 45mpg, but it still has to use premium whereas the econo car gets around 32 to 35mpg so the savings may be $20 a month give or take.

80 miles a day x 5 days a week x 4 weeks/month = 1600 miles/month
1600 miles / 42mpg X $3.70/gal = 140.95/month in diesel
so... 1600 / 35mpg (gas) * $3.30/gal = $150.85/month in gas

not when you factor in longevity and resale of a diesel

Once you factor in tire wear and more frequent service the sport bike argument is voided. My old Buell could knock down 50+ mpg but you had to change the oil every 2k miles and tires were only good for 5k, so every 5k miles you spend $600 in maintenance/repairs if nothing breaks.
This is exactly what I'm saying. Fuel savings with diesel compared to gas is marginally better because of the cost difference between the two. Just like the gas usage on a sport bike compared a car.

Michelin Pilot Road 3's are where it's at. I can get 10K on the rear and almost double that on the front.
I just drug the shit out of a 2003 ford focus zx3 bitches!!

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
