Any recommendations on which Island to stay and what to do and not do? We will be flying with a 5 month old as well as 8yo and 10 yo. Thinking around October. Any information or recommendations would be appreciated. Initial search of airfare was about $2800.00 to Honolulu. looking at hotels and transportation next.

I stayed 9 days on Kauai and it was awesome... especially if you are into a little more of the outdoors type. Some great hikes, decent snorkling, tons of beaches, and Polihale State Park is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world... even if you cant' swim there with the currents and breaks. I will probably do the big island or Maui next time because the snorkeling is supposed to be better (rockier)

kauai was beautiful and very quite, not a huge party crowd, Tunnels beach is awesome. SPEED LIMIT sucks though lol, lots of one way bridges. Lots of good scenery up on the mountains, can see the PMRF from some spots. Good place for family
Of course you can do the normal and go Oahu, to Waikiki, major tourist area, plus close to the pineapple fields, and Pearl Harbor. Whatever you do rent a car or walk cab fairs are stupid over there.

I would consider the possibility of going without the infant. It's Hawaii and it would be much more enjoyable without kids but at the very least without babies. If you want to take the kids, take them to Destin or Galveston as it would be much cheaper for something they won't remember.
We went several years back and stayed at Oahu, rented a jeep with no top, check out the North Shore, Diamond Head and just relax. Of coarse we didn't take our kids. We also went during hurricane season too so just know that you stand the chance of dealing with a hurricane but the temps during that time were just awesome!
