  • Any of the mma guys ever heard anything about the "Texas Fighting Syndicate"

Iv been thinking about joining a mma gym for awhile and I get a discount there becasue of the company I work for. It's either TFS or Lutters gym in Ft Worth. Lutters is more exspensive but has a more famous name running it.
    Anyone know anything about TFS?

Has JKD joined here yet? I'm sure he and his MMA cronies know something about that gym

Second rule: change the name to " Canadian ham slappers".

My first question is what are you looking to get out of it?

Then I would suggest to you to go watch a couple of each classes in both schools to see which one you feel comfortable with. There is ALOT of MMA gyms poppin up these days, hiring a few fighters/trainers and starting their mass production of budding fighters. TFS could be one of those type of places, maybe not. You'd have to go see for yourself if you can gel with the instructors there or not. See how much one on one time you get, or if there is alot of people in the classes where you aren't getting the attention you're going to require.

Travis Lutter is without a doubt one of the best BJJ guys in the state, so you can't go wrong there. But like I said, I'm not sure what you are looking to get from it.

I like to fight. But I dont want to get arrested/ticketed for doing it any more. I also want to get better at it and be able to test my progress by sparring/competing. I also want to get back into shape or get in better shape than I ever have been. I did boxng for a short period until I changed jobs and took second shift. I liked boxing but I dont want to commit to only one style so mma seems like it would suit me the best.

Then the trainers and scheduling are going to be the most important factors for you to consider. It's important you find trainers you like, their style of training, fighting, work ethics and personalities.

Just because a trainer may do all the things you are looking for, if you don't like him or how he does things, the training is not going to work for you.

Despite what alot of people may lead you to believe, boxing does not translate well into MMA. So don't base any of your decisions on a boxing coach. Muai Thai, yes - boxing, fuck no.

Muai Thai, wrestling and BJJ is the foundation you need to compete, or fight in MMA. It's a decent general basis for anyone just wanting real effective self defense as well. Boxing as a whole , is horrid in all occasions of real combat.

Go try both places, get a couple of workouts and see which one feels right for you. See if they are more interested in getting your money, or geniunely interested in helping you grow.

After the last two days, are you seriously trying to bring some sort of regulation to the boards? lol.
