The govt is already freaking out because some guy (maybe a college student? I'm too lazy too look it up) put out the plans to print a 3D gun. I saw something about it on the science channel (eh, I think it was that channel - again, lazy).

Even that doesn't matter. All one would need is a real gun and a 3D scanner and you could make your own schematics. I would think investing in a 3D printer would be a little pointless without a scanner to go along with it.
