OP, I was a professional stock analyst (now manage money for high net worth individuals) and I still tell people to just index the shit. As others have hinted, it's very very difficult to beat the broader markets on a consistent basis in a manner that's statistically significant. That being said, the majority of this site should be invested in the markets in some form. I can't tell you specifics without knowing a whole hell of a lot more about your situation. I've had some horrible calls in my day, some phenomenal calls (TSCO first accumulation in early 2009 chooooo choooooooo), but the vast majority of my investments are in funds or they're indexed.

                              Right now I'm thinking 401k/retirement fund allocation type advice for a flat fee. Do you know how many times I answer that question for friends? Do you know most advisors charge a 1%-ish type fee a year for this service and only rebalance maybe 1x. I could charge a fraction and provide the same thing.

                                Start at USAA. Call them up and they'll give you an introduction. Put some of your money in a few mutual funds to get started while you continue educating yourself.
