You're probably still getting shot....my dog is better than you in my eyes. Not trying to be an E-badass or anything...it's just how things would likely play out.

Have there been any cases where police have raided the wrong house and were shot as a result? All I know is I have a gun(s) and spare mag(s) within arms reach at all times. If someone kicked in the door or attempted to come through a window they are getting lead with a quickness.
I'm with you on this....someone entering my house in the middle of the night absolutely WILL be shot, regardless. I'm admittedly a bit of a freak when it comes to this. My wife has warned our neighbors and daughters friends numerous times after seeing me pop out of bed with a pistol or shotgun in the middle of the night....do not be screwing around on our property unidentified. I'm a light sleeper now-a-days, and if I hear something unusual it never goes uninvestigated. I suppose its all a result of having my shit jacked a few times in the past.....as well as having a teenage daughter in the house.

You guys might want to think about this from another angle.

I've seen several chases end where the bad guy wrecks out and bails on foot. The police are hot on his trail and he finds an unlocked door/window or even kicks in a door. He runs through the house and makes a commotion, and the officer is a few seconds behind. The first commotion startles you awake and you grab a gun. The first thing you see is the dark figure of the officer and you start blindly shooting?????

You can't just throw out a blanket "I'll shoot anyone that comes into my house uninvited" statement.

There are too many variables to do that.

Devils advocate here, but isnt that what the police do? Shoot first ask later. I always hear "you don't have time to hesitate or you're dead". So now the civilian is supposed to stop and identify themselves and investigate who has broke into their house? FYI I'm not FTP'ing, just asking a question.

Nowhere did I say that the homeowner is supposed to identify yourself.

I just said you are responsible for identifying your target which means assessing the threat.

Just like the Bart officer that mistook his gun for his Taser and killed the person in the subway. He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced.

I don't mean identify yourself per say as in "this is homeowner insert name", but you say assess the threat. So you shine a light, yell something, turn on a light whatever you do to assess the threat, there for giving away your position and "identifying yourself" giving a would be intruder time to kill you instead. Everybody who knows me knows about my guns, so no family member or friend is gonna be bursting into my house late at night. And I'll take the chance on shooting first, because odds are its not going to be an officer.

No they have always just been that way. They will look out the window at people but don't bark. They don't make a sound when my door bell rings but they are standing at the door. I know by their movements if someone is around.

Odds are you are right, but what if some drunk 18 year old thinks he is at his house, his key won't work, so he starts to come in a window. Are you going to shoot him?

Agreed. You better be damned sure you know what you're shooting, if it's a threat or not. Accidents happen all the time because of this.

Yes. If someone was crawling through my window at night I damn sure wouldn't question them.

Maybe we should have them fill out a questionnaire first.

                        True or false;
                        You are a drunk minor.
You are the police chasing a fugitive of the law.
You intend to harm me or my family.
                        ect.

Your people don't ask first if there is "perceived" danger. I've seen that in your own writing.

Yes, I can because if they see me, they will shoot.

Yes. I will. What is it you said about the cops shooting the old guy holding a water hose? They didn't want to pull their flashlights because it'd give them away and take time? Yeah, that.

I'm not sure if I would call them "accidents".

Who said the kid coming in the window had a water nozzle?
